Victims Of Priest Abuse In Rome To Urge Cardinals To Choose Wisely

ROME (CBS4) – While many pilgrims on a spiritual journey are flocking to Rome to observe history in the making, others have made the trek here to expose hurt anger and outrage.

Dark clouds hovered above St. Peter’s Basilica Sunday, days before the start of the papal conclave. The haunting faces of innocence lost, allegedly stolen at the hands of abusive priests, emerged with the hope the world will watch and the cardinals will listen.

They feel that the cardinals need to select a Pope who will do more to heal the wounds of victims and more to safeguard the children.

“They have to do something, intervene, because there’s a problem. We are talking about children, they are completely abandoned before, during and after. They are treated like animals,” David Clohessy, direc...

TO MEMBERS OF SNAP: PLEASE FIGHT YOUR LONGEST AND HARDEST, NOW. PERSEVERE. I PRAY FOR your CONTINUED STRENGTH OF YOUR CONVICTIONS, and I PRAY THAT YOU KNOW THAT YOUR WORK IS BEING EFFECTIVE, even if more slowly than those of us who agree with your actions, would like…maybe, SLOWNESS IN MAKING THIS DECISION AND TAKING THIS VOTE, IS EXACTLY WHAT IS BEST FOR ALL.

To the leaders and members of SNAP: PLEASE CONTINUE. PLEASE PERSEVERE! I would say in addition to this news commentator’s comment of: “Recusing oneself from voting because of ties to sexual misconduct isn’t unprecedented. Cardinal Keith O’brien of Scotland did just that earlier this month.” That, yes, you are correct in saying recusal is not unprecedented, but I would also add that Cardinal O’Brien’s recusal is the setting the precedent! I am glad that he did recuse himself from voting for the next Pope. I think he was repenitent and “brave” to do that, and I hope and pray that those electors who didn’t recuse themselves paid, and are paying close attention to all the victim’s and all the people who would continue to be Catholics only IF the abuse of children and disabled adults, is STOPPED!!!

I just saw the American priest, Dolan, I think it was, citing that the Cardinals had already given some thought to the pedophile priest problem “last week”, but now they’re all, ready to elect a new Pope. (smile, smile) And, that made me sad, because he seemed “flippant” about the gravity of all of this,, and he seemed just back to “having fun” being one of what he must think of as the church “celebrities” and part of “history unfoldiing”…using the SOP.

I’m sorry for him that he apparently, has not yet seen the light. I am convinced the church will “die” in America, and many other places if it isn’t purged and reformed now. (Or, worse, that it won’t die but only be able to continue, drag along, because of all the few remaining members being “ok” with pedophile preists. Oh, my God…how very sad, sad, sad.)
