SNAP Applauds AG Intervention into Child Sexual Abuse at a D.C. Preschool

The Attorney General of Washington D.C. has sued a Hebrew congregation for failing to protect children from sexual abuse. We applaud this move and are confident that this will help protect future boys and girls from the scourge of sex crimes.

According to the lawsuit, the preschool did not properly conduct background checks and repeatedly chose not to report allegations of child sexual abuse, electing to handle things internally instead of involving the police. This is an all-too-common problem within religious institutions and we firmly believe the only way that these institutions will change their behavior is through punishment and oversight from secular institutions. We applaud A.G. Karl Racine for taking this step and hope it inspires other attorneys general across the country to use their power to protect children in their state.

We also hope that the families and children who were hurt by these crimes are finding the support and help they need during this time. Their bravery and strength for going through an investigation of this length and scope cannot be understated. Because of their willingness to come forward and report, other children will be spared a lifetime of pain.
