Healing for Trauma & Promoting Resilience Mini-Conference Schedule:

Survivors of sexual violence, in particular, have a tricky relationship to resilience. If survivors appear too resilient, then our pain is erased with comments like "you seem fine!" or "but look at you now!". On the other hand, if survivors are open about their pain and struggles, people can react negatively and survivors can lose credibility. In this session Julie will talk about her understanding of resilience from her perspective as a survivor and her work with other survivors of abuse.
Julie S. Lalonde is an internationally recognized women’s rights advocate and public educator based in Ottawa, Canada. For nearly 20 years, she has worked to improve the lives of women and girls in Canada with a focus on engaging bystanders to create communities of support. Her client list includes the Canadian Armed Forces, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and L'Oréal Paris. She has presented her work in five countries across three continents in two languages. Her memoir Resilience is Futile: The Life and Death and Life of Julie S. Lalonde was published in spring 2020. It won the 2020 Ontario Speaker’s award and was named one of the best books of the year by CBC Books and the Hill Times. Julie has won numerous awards for her advocacy work including “Best Volunteer in a Leading Role” by Volunteer Ottawa and the Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
Jay Taylor, Sound Healer

A sound meditation designed to support in the release of stress and reharmonization of the body. Headphones are strongly encouraged for this session.
Our facilitator, Jay Taylor, transitioned into his career and calling in the art of sound meditation in 2018 after completing a 10-year career teaching elementary/middle school in Chicago. Since that time he has facilitated over 700 meditations at hospitals, universities, mental health facilities, non-profit organizations, corporate offices, athletic clubs, and yoga studios. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, Jay partnered with the Ahimsa Yoga Studios to create the Ahimsa School of Sound Healing which is dedicated to empowering people in their expression and healing through sound. It is Jay’s belief that everybody deserves to feel good, and sound can help.
Rachel Grant, Sexual Abuse Coach

In this session, Rachel will discuss her “Five Mindset Shifts” that can help survivors heal from trauma and move forward in a healthy, trauma-informed way.
Rachel Grant is the owner and founder of Rachel Grant Coaching and is a Sexual Abuse Recovery Coach and M.A. in Counseling Psychology. She is also the author of Beyond Surviving: The Final Stage in Recovery from Sexual Abuse. Based on her educational training, study of neuroscience, and lessons learned from her own journey, she has successfully used the Beyond Surviving Program since 2007 to help survivors of childhood sexual abuse who are beyond sick and tired of feeling broken and unfixable break free from the pain of abuse and finally move on with their lives.

This is a safe place to share without judgement. Topics will include discussions focusing on the unique point of view of the a survivor, and will provide opportunities to ask questions and receive support.
