Teacher and Coach Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

A coach at a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of San Francisco has been arrested for possessing child pornography. We call on school officials to work to identify any possible victims among their student or alumni population and for church officials within the Archdiocese of San Francisco to do outreach.

John Baptist deLorimer was a yearbook teacher at Mare Island Technology Academy High School and a football coach at Tamalpais High School and Marin Catholic High School, as well as for the Southern Marin Broncos. While detectives have thus far only found “known images” of child pornography, we fear that he may have victims among the students with whom he worked. Possessing child pornography can be a marker for those who also abuse in person, so we believe church and school officials should be diligent in ensuring no other children were harmed by this man.

Marin Catholic High School is within the Archdiocese of San Francisco, one of the few remaining dioceses in the country that have refused to release a list of clergy, brothers, nuns, and church staff accused of abuse. We call on archdiocesan officials in San Francisco to end their delays, release a list now, and ensure that teachers like deLorimer are included on that list when it is published.
