Kansas priest pleads guilty; Sex abuse victims respond
Statement by Barbara Dorris of St. Louis, Outreach Director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (314 862 7688 home, 314 503 0003 cell)
We hope that anyone who may have seen, suspected or suffered crimes or misdeeds by Fr. Campbell will come forward, get help, call police, and start recovering.
Campbell's plea absolves no one of the basic civic and moral duty to speak up about sexual misconduct, by him or other clerics.
(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 22 years and have more than 9,000 members. Wichita priest pleads no-contest to public nudity
Associated Press - June 25, 2010 5:04 AM ET
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) - A longtime Wichita priest who was caught up in a sex sting operation last year has pleaded no contest to public nudity.
The Rev. Leslie Campbell also pleaded no contest Thursday afternoon to remaining in a park after hours. KAKE reports that in exchange for Campbell's plea, a charge of lewd and lascivious behavior was dropped.
Campbell was arrested in August 2009 and placed on leave by the Wichita Diocese the next day. He had been a priest at St. Jude's for more than 10 years.
