SNAP Press Statement

Statement Regarding Testimony Allowed
in Fr. Wempe Case

December 14, 2005

Statement by Mary Grant of Long Beach CA
626 419 2930
Western Regional Director of SNAP

"Fr. Wempe is one of southern California's worst predators, and we're grateful the judge is allowing more testimony from a handful of his victims.

Because Wempe is shrewd and well-connected, he has enjoyed considerable protection from church officials. But we're thrilled he may finally have to face his victims in a court of law.

We hope that no one gets complacent, however, and that others who experienced, suspected or witnessed his many sex crimes keep coming forward and calling the police.

Children will be safer once he's convicted and locked up."
