SNAP Press Statement

Statement Regarding Portland Bankruptcy Cap

November 15, 2005

Statement by David Clohessy of St. Louis,
National director of SNAP, 314 566 9790

"The archbishop's proposal is immoral.

We understand his motivations, but they're selfish and coldhearted. What wrong-doer wouldn't want to keep his crimes secret and his consequences minimal? But arbitrarily demanding an rigid cap and severely limiting the possibilities of trials is simply wrong.

For the children's safety and their own healing, these deeply wounded victims deserve their chance to expose child molesting priests and complicit, deceitful church officials through the time tested American judicial system in a courtroom. The archbishop wants to prevent this, so his cover up of sex crimes remains covered up."
