If you're on this page, it's because you're a SNAP Leader who we've asked to help us with crowd-based fundraising. Thank you for your interest! This year, we're planning our fundraiser around Giving Tuesday, which is Tuesday, November 29. If you have any questions about anything on this page, don't hesitate to reach out to Zach, Mike, or Melanie for help.
How to Set Up a Fundraiser to Benefit SNAP:
- Go to https://www.facebook.com/fundraisers/. From here you can select SNAP as the organization you want to raise funds on behalf of. One of the benefits of using Facebook is that FB will match donations made on Tuesday until their matching funds run out, so donors who give to your fundraiser on Nov. 29 will have gift go even further.
- Follow the prompts to set up your fundraiser. We recommend:
- Setting a fundraising goal of $500 for a minimum of three weeks.
- Time the fundraiser so it starts the weekend before Giving Tuesday, but after the Thanksgiving holiday when more people are online. Consider starting the fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday and letting it run from there.
- Use a descriptive title and personalize the description of your fundraiser.
TIP: Use your own cover photo or SNAP Logo to customize your fundraiser. Logo files and sample graphics are available further down this page.
- Click “Create” then announce your fundraiser. Scroll down for helpful hints on how to promote your fundraiser.
Four Simple Ways to Promote the Fundraiser:
- Announce your fundraiser by using the “share” option, ask friends to share and don’t forget to include a link!
- For friends and family you think would support you but don't necessarily use Facebook that much, email or text them the link. Sample messages are available below.
- Update as you go along and hit milestones! For example, did you just hit $100 raised? That’s the kind of milestone your friends and family want to hear about. It gets your personal network invested in your goal.
- Create a short selfie video - or better yet, go LIVE on Facebook - to explain to users why you are raising funds.
- Explain why SNAP is important to you and to your community. You can help folks learn about the importance of your work by sharing a recent interview or quote if you have been with reporters. You can also share a story that demonstrates the work SNAP is involved in or that you care about.
- Make sure to mention the matching Facebook funds as many donors will be more motivated to give when their money is matched.
- VERY IMPORTANT - Make sure to create “thank you” posts to donors with them tagged to show your appreciation.
