For the past several months we all have been challenged by a global pandemic that has altered the landscape of our lives. All of us here at SNAP continue to hope that you and your family remain healthy and safe against COVID-19. We are also aware that this healthcare crisis has had a profound impact on our economy, even for nonprofit organizations. However, SNAP is among the more fortunate nonprofits, and here’s why: monthly sustaining gifts.
If you are unfamiliar with a sustaining gift, it is simply a recurring monthly financial commitment to SNAP with a start but no specific end date. The power of a sustaining gift is stability. The stability afforded through predictable income allows us to spend more time on innovating our programs and services and raising awareness of SNAP’s mission and advocacy for the communities we serve. Practically speaking, monthly giving is also easier to fold into your budget than a one-time gift may be. It allows you to choose an amount that works for you and ensures you can help support SNAP all year long.
On average, we spend approximately $6,750 per month for general operating expenses, ranging from office rental space and telephone costs, expenses related to providing our survivor support groups and helpline, maintenance of our website and internet connections to the fees associated with postage and mailing, and much more. Thanks to monthly sustaining gifts, roughly 85 donors have recently accounted for raising more than 46% toward our monthly expenses. We are grateful to these generous monthly donors whose support helps ensure that SNAP can continue to thrive even in the most trying times.
You too can help provide this critical stability. This year, our goal is to have 100 sustaining donors whose gifts cover at least 60% of our operating expenses by December 31, 2020. So, we invite you to be part of our challenge by making a monthly sustained gift (or increasing your current monthly donation) to SNAP. With your ongoing commitment, we can guarantee that we will always be here to protect the vulnerable, heal the wounded and expose the truth!
