We applaud the brave man who is exposing an Oregon predator priest, Fr. Emmerich Vogt. As best we can tell, this is the first time this cleric has been “outed” as a credibly accused child molester. He’s the 89th publicly accused Portland archdiocesan predator priest.

We hope every single person who saw, suspected or suffered crimes by Fr. Vogt or cover ups by his Catholic supervisors will come forward, call police, expose wrongdoers, deter secrecy and protect kids.

We’re saddened but not surprised that Fr. Vogt has already, through his lawyer, said he’ll fight this lawsuit on legal technicalities and not on the merits.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 20,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers.
