Group
wants to help those sexually abused by Valley priestBy Chelsea Schneider
Jun.
16, 2007 Members of a national support group for victims of sexual
abuse by priests, plan to hand out leaflets Sunday at two West Valley churches
where they say a priest arrested last month in Spain once worked. The group
said in a press release tonight that they want parishioners at St. Augustine in
west Phoenix and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale to press for open discussions
about abuse. Jorge Washington Cordova, 51, served at the two churches in
the early 1990s.
Cordova has been indicted on charges of sexual abuse in
both Maricopa and Yuma counties. In the Maricopa case, he was accused of
sexually abusing a teen girl about 15 years ago. Earlier this month, Cordova
was arrested near Madrid, Spain after he fled Arizona. He is now facing extradition
proceedings. Copyright © 2007 - Arizonacentral.com
