We’re disappointed that Msgr. Edward Weisenburger has been promoted. For the past 16 years, he has been a high-ranking official (vicar general) in an archdiocese (Oklahoma City) with a disturbing record with children’s safety. 

Sorry, “retirement” doesn’t cut it. Bishops promised to oust child molesting clerics, not let them voluntarily step down.

In a new decision, Vatican officials are refusing to defrock a serial predator priest, Msgr. Wallace A. Harris, and NY Archbishop Timothy Dolan is quietly going along with the reckless decision. 

In a new ruling, Maine’s highest court is letting a child sex abuse victim expose a predator priest in the court. The case involves Fr. Renald C. Hallee, who was found, just last year, working in a Boston-area Catholic church, despite the pending court case against him.

We are deeply disturbed at the level of depravity of Mark Berndt. Our hearts grieve for the torture suffered by the children that he abused and who may have looked up to him as a teacher before he betrayed their trust. We hope they are able to find healing and recovery.

We've very worried that this convicted serial child predator is being released so quickly and will soon again be around unsuspecting families. 

For decades, most Catholic bishops have assured their flocks they “take child sex abuse seriously” and “act promptly” on reports or suspicions of abuse. So it’s disconcerting that only now Kansas City church officials are claiming they’re starting to “look into suspicions of abuse.”

Whenever a lawmaker stiffens penalties against child predators, our children are safer from abuse.  We applaud Senate Majority Whip Mary Jane Garcia's tough new criminal bills and hope that other lawmakers in the state follow her lead.
