MO - Boone Co. prosecutors investigating priest

Boone County prosecutors revealed yesterday that they are investigating a once-convicted predator priest who may soon walk free from a Cooper County jail but is accused of molesting kids in the Columbia area too.

UK - Retired Church of England bishop arrested, SNAP responds

We are grateful to police for arresting Bishop Peter Ball. Simply because he is elderly and has retired does not mean that he is safe around children. In fact, his age and “grandfatherly” image may actually make him more dangerous.

AUS - Prime Minister launches commission into sex abuse, SNAP responds

We applaud Prime Minister Julia Gillard for this move, but caution that this is only a first step. Aggressive investigation of all clergy sex crimes and cover ups by institutional leaders, church officials and law enforcement - regardless of when they happened or where the wrongdoers are now - must happen simultaneously.

MD - SNAP blasts USCCB's failure to discipline bishops

Is there any crime a bishop can commit that would get him kicked out of America’s bishops group? Or even denounced by one of his fellow bishops? That’s what we can’t help but wonder.

MA - Controversy surrounding Amherst intensifies, SNAP responds

Any time that a person reports allegations of rape or sexual assault, institutions must be prepared to accept that person, commend them for coming forward and then launch an investigation, regardless of whether the alleged crime occurred last week or last year.

CT - Clergy sex victims applaud park re-naming

Easton officials have made a smart and sensitive move by agreeing to take the name of an accused serial predator off of a park. There's no need to rub salt into the wounds of child sex abuse victims by honoring a man who has repeatedly been accused of molesting kids.

MO - Victims to KC bishop: “Stay home”

A support group for clergy sex abuse victims is urging controversial Kansas City Bishop Robert Finn to stay home next week and “show contrition” - for acting “recklessly, callously and deceitfully” in clergy sex abuse cases - by skipping the annual meeting of America’s Catholic bishops.
