WHAT: Holding signs and childhood pictures, abuse victims will hold a news conference outside the Contra Costa County Court Administration building to:
--blast local school districts over recent reports of abuse of special needs children,
--prod anyone who saw, suspected or suffered abuse at Tobinworld in Antioch to call police, and
--hand deliver a formal request asking that a grand jury be convened to investigate whether school officials are breaking laws or endangering special needs students. Copies of the complaint will be available at the press event, as will copies of complaints to the grand juries in Alameda and Solano County.

What: At a sidewalk news conference, victims of child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church will attempt to hand-deliver a letter to the Chicago Archbishop. The letter cites a Chicago Tribune story about an admitted predator priest in Chicago. It also demands that Archbishop Blase Cupich:

--announce a new child abuse lawsuit against a Kansas City priest who’s also a therapist,
--prod the archbishop to post the names of credibly accused predators on diocesan website, and
--urge those who see, suspect or suffer clergy sex crimes and cover ups to keep calling police and prosecutors, not church officials.

Holding signs and childhood photos at a sidewalk news conference, sex abuse survivors will blast public school officials for claiming that kids were not abused by a child molesting teacher who was convicted for molesting those same kids. The group will also urge the school board to:
-- “stop playing legal hardball and re-victimizing these youngsters,”
--denounce the legal strategy of claiming that victims were not abused,
--apologize for and explain their rationale for making “this intimidating move,” and
--disclose and discipline those who approved this tactic.

Victim/survivors of childhood rape, sexual assault and abuse by priests of the Milwaukee Archdiocese will be attending a final confirmation hearing for the nearly five year old Milwaukee archdiocese bankruptcy and will be conducting a press conference on the steps of the Federal Courthouse after the hearing. Survivors are also available for comment this weekend (see contact information below).
The Church needs to do more to protect children, help survivors, as well as live up to its promise of being open and transparent.
