Illinois State AG

Dear Attorney General Raoul,

After reading reports of the Pennsylvania grand jury, I can no longer trust that my children are safe in the State of Illinois. I am both outraged and disturbed by what they found.

As a resident of the state of Illinois, I ask and implore you to conduct an independent investigation into probable sexual abuse of children and minors by clergy in the Catholic Church. Serious criminal acts were committed by Catholic clergy in Pennsylvania. We fear harm to hundreds or perhaps thousands of children in the state of Illinois have also occurred.

The shocking Grand Jury Report demonstrates a cavalier disregard for children’s health and safety.  It is imperative that the investigation include the following three factors: 1) be independent and separate from the church, 2) employ subpoena authority, and 3) compel testimony under oath.

Our community relies on you and other organizations of law enforcement for the safety of our community.  Perpetrators of these crimes, and those responsible for covering up these crimes, need to be held accountable.  This initiative will protect future children from sexual assault in our great state.  We need to make the very strong statement that there will be criminal consequences for protecting an institution over the safety and well being of a child.

Out of the 1000 victims in the state of Pennsylvania, only 2 will be able to seek justice due to PA SOL laws.

The PA Grand Jury Report is replete with story after story of how the Church turned their back to their victims.  Please don’t do the same to the victims in Illinois.  These survivors deserve more from this great state.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Sincerely,

Both me & my younger sister – and probably our youngest sister and maybe our older sister – were sexually abused by (now deceased) Fr Louis B Shea.

Springfield IL bishop knew of Shea’s issues – but instead of removing him from the priesthood, the bishop kept transferring Shea from central IL parish to another central IL parish.

I was a devout Catholic, up until 1963, when I literally kicked him out of my twin-bed.

I’d wanted to be a Teacher and Nun. Fr Shea changed all that. He f^%ked up all our lives.

I have been agnostic for over 35 years.

It’s difficult to retain beliefs in Catholic church – when their “ordained” priests molest kids… and the bishops allow this.

“Other than THAT, Mrs Lincoln, How did you like the Play?”

Enough. It’s time for them to PAY.

I am a survivor … even though I did not allow the priest to touch me I was forcfully taken out of the Cathedral and into the Rectory bedroom … I suffer from PTSD because of this but I’m told I don’t matter because no sexual contact took place but I beg to differ … I’ve suffered greatly then I was harassed for the last five years from my church until I finally left because they did not want me there. Only the priest and the deacon knew at the church I was attending but they wanted me gone. They harassed me in my own home with the help of the local police which they payed off to use weird sounds and smells in my room and in my home until I finally left the church. It took a long time of searching the internet to prove to my family who also work in law enforcement that this could be possible … they wanted me to appear to be crazy … I was hospitalized because of this harassement … I am happy to say they have finally ceased that activity after five years of torture … I can’t even believe the Catholic Church could be so evil to me … I was trying to explain why I never made my confirmation … I had to tell the truth but they still refused to believe me … I still suffer from PTSD.
