Act 26

This Act closed on August 17th. Thank you to all who participated!

What:  For over a decade SNAP has repeatedly urged America's largest organization of nuns - the Leadership Conference of Women Religious - to expose known predators and take steps to protect the vulnerable and heal the wounded. The LCWR has continually refused to allow survivors or SNAP leaders to speak at their Assemblies and Conferences, and denied all SNAP requests. The Leadership Conference of Women Religious National Assembly is this week, which makes the next few days a crucial opportunity to raise awareness and pressure the LCWR to answer for its silence on child abuse committed by nuns and sisters! 

Why: Little information exists about how many survivors of nun abuse exist, but we do know that alleged perpetrators are rarely held accountable for their crimes and that their orders demonstrate little effort in exposing or disciplining potential predators. This is an unacceptably dangerous oversight: nuns outnumber priests and have greater access to children. We must keep pressuring the LCWR to speak on this issue and take steps to protect vulnerable children and adults!

How to complete Act 26:  Tweet at the Leadership Conference of Women Religious criticizing their silence around nun abuse

As you formulate your tweet, consider touching on these points: 

• Survivors and SNAP members have been urging the LCWR to take steps to prevent abuse for over a decade, to be continually ignored and rebuffed. 
• The LCWR possesses the manpower, respect, and influence to incite change across orders that will protect vulnerable children and adults.

Don't forget to add #LCWR and #women religious to your tweet so that LCWR leaders and followers will see it!

And consider re-tweeting and/or liking other Team members' tweets as well.
