2015 Conference Speaker - Petr Bob

Petr_Bob_Headshot.jpgPetr Bob is a psychologist and neuroscientist, and associate professor at Center for Neuropsychiatric Research of Traumatic Stress, First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. He is an author of two books ʺBrain and Dissociated Mindʺ and ʺBrain, Mind and Consciousness: Advances in Neuroscience Researchʺ and more than 100 peer reviewed articles. His main research interest includes dissociation and its psychopathological and psychophysiological mechanisms in relation to traumatic stress. In his work he developed theoretical and empirical analysis of dissociative phenomena using nonlinear and complexity analysis of electrophysiological signals. He is one of the main investigators at Centre for Neuropsychiatric Research of Traumatic Stress.

The Brain, Stress and Trauma—Healing Arts

The hour long presentation will introduce the audience to brain science and demonstrate how the brain is injured by traumatic events, how the brain is effected over the long term by untreated traumatic stress.(Lead Presenter Dr. Konopka, 20 mins) Various healing therapies will be described and linked to their positive effect on the brain. This section will focus on both neuroscience and art therapy. (Lead presenter Prof King, 15 mins.) Finally, a discussion about the need for a detailed scientific survey to help explain the causes of delay in reporting and treatment of victims of Child Sex Abuse by Clergy. There will be two breakout sessions about art therapy being led by Aisling Kerns and Daniel Lanctot.
