Victims praise LA school district

Protecting child requires swift and decisive action. Adults who prey on children thrive on delays and "internal investigations." In fact, we have seen time and time again how child predators continue to molest in institutional settings, even after their supervisors have suspicions, knowledge and evidence of crimes.

We hope that last night's action by the Los Angeles School District - closing a school and removing and/or retraining the entire staff after three employees were arrested and accused of sexual abuse - will become the norm, not the exception. Although LAUSD officials could have acted sooner, alerted parents, and informed authorities of "red flag" behavior, yesterday's events leave no question about the safety of students at Miramonte Elementary from this point onward.

Children's safety - NOT internal investigations, personnel reviews, and institutional "procedures" - should always be first priority.
