TX- Church members attack victim, SNAP responds
A pastor at the Church of Corinth near Dallas, TX was arrested last week on charges of attempting to make a teenager strip for him. The police have the entire 2 hour attack on audio tape and suspect there maybe more victims.
Sadly, this horrible event doesn’t end there. Members at the Church of Corinth have taken to defending their pastor and attaching the victim. We see this kind of misguided defense all too often. Shame on church officials for not doing more to protect the innocent victim, and shame on anyone who put the reputation of a powerul adult over the safety of vulnerable children. Church officials should encourage their parishioners to express compassion for the victim and they should seek out others who may have been hurt.
We hope that this will not discourage others from speaking up. Anyone who saw, suspects or suffered abuse should come forward and report to police.
50 State AG Call for Grand Jury
Any investigation must be:
- independent of and separate from the church
- must have subpoena powers and ability to compel testimony under oath
Anything short of these criteria is a sham and whitewash.
In addition, write letters to the editor, make phone calls to politicians as they can apply pressure to keep them responsive to our demand. We need to make efforts to ensure that they follow up on what the state is doing to investigate these crimes.
