TX - Another teacher abuse scandal at Texas Elementary School, SNAP responds
The fact that two teachers over the course of two years have been arrested at the same school for sexual abuse is beyond disappointing; it is frightening.
We stand with the parents of Martha Hunt Elementary School and echo their call for answers regarding what school officials knew about Todd Reich. We also believe they should inform the community about what kind of background checks these teachers go through.
Plano ISD and the Texas Department of Education should look into these cases at Martha Hunt Elementary. The fact that such horrific crimes have occurred here twice recently demands action. One teacher abusing a student at school is disturbing and sad, but two teachers at the same school demands an investigation into hiring practices and the way that the school allows its teachers to interact with students.
We urge anyone involved with Martha Hunt Elementary – whether they are the parent of a current or former student, employee, or concerned citizen – who may have information about these alleged crimes to immediately come forward to police. No detail, no matter how small or insignificant, should go unreported.
50 State AG Call for Grand Jury
Any investigation must be:
- independent of and separate from the church
- must have subpoena powers and ability to compel testimony under oath
Anything short of these criteria is a sham and whitewash.
In addition, write letters to the editor, make phone calls to politicians as they can apply pressure to keep them responsive to our demand. We need to make efforts to ensure that they follow up on what the state is doing to investigate these crimes.
The Attorneys General of forty states have inquired about the grand jury process in Pennsylvania. Let's get statewide investigations going in fifty states.
