Statement by Barbara Dorris of St. Louis, Outreach Director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (314 8627688, [email protected])

A former Tennessee pastor has been accused of sexually assaulting children.  We are grateful to the brave victims who have come forward.

Larry Michael Berkley allegedly sexually assaulted and gave drugs, porn and alcohol to children while he was the pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Arkansas. While he was the senior pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Henning, Tennessee he was asked to leave for undisclosed reasons.

We want church officials to publicly explain why Berkley was fired and if those reasons had anything to do with sexual misconduct, why they did not warn unsuspecting families and church officials in Arkansas.

We hope that anyone who saw, suspects or suffered misconduct by Berkley or any other church staff will come forward and call secular authorities.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 25 years and have more than 15,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers.
