2008 Story #3 – A Heros Tale
To understand fully why I feel so strongly about my "hero", you need to have a thumbnail sketch of the 34 years that preceded the most important phone call I have ever made.
I have been suicidal every day of those 34 years, and have attempted twice; never able to sustain work; angry and abusive to all of the people I have loved; bisexual (not by choice, but without choice); spent 10 months in prison and 5 years on parole for crimes which I committed, but never knew why; bi-polar, manic depressive and diagnosed ADHD.
I had no hope whatsoever in my heart for a fulfilling and happy life, and in a crowded room, I felt completely alone.
In one phone call, which took nearly an hour because I simply could not stop talking, my "hero" helped to give me a foundation upon which I stand to this day.
My first call to David Clohessy gave me hope.
His advice gave me a direction in which to turn, and SNAP gave me the comfort that allowed me to feel less alone than I've ever felt before.
SNAP is a Godsend, and I am very grateful to the organization, but make no mistake about it...
SNAP is a Godsend, and I am very grateful to the organization, but make no mistake about it...David is my HERO.
In him, I feel that I have found not just a friend, but a friend that knows exactly how I feel.
Thanks SNAP, for being there, and David, for the gifts of understanding and compassionate care.
You are this man's hero!
