Priest faces child sex sentencing in VA on Fri
Statement by Becky Ianna, SNAP Virginia Coordinator, 703-801-6044 (cell), SNAPVirginia@cox.net
In a Fairfax County Virginia courtroom on Friday, 12/17, Fr. Felix C. Owino will be sentenced for recently molesting a young girl. We strongly suspect he has committed other sex crimes with both children and adults and hope he’ll be locked up for a long time. The innocent are best protected when predators are jailed, especially sexual predators who are likely to repeat their devastating crimes.
In fact, we recently learned, from two sources, that there have been at least three sexual misconduct complaints against Owino at the Magdalen College in New Hampshire where he worked before he was accepted into the Wheeling-Charleston diocese.
(Owino also worked in two Pennsylvania dioceses (Pittsburgh and Allentown) and at Duquesne University between 1997 and 2005. Most recently, he worked at Wheeling Jesuit College in Wheeling while also pastoring a parish in Weirton, WV.)
We urge the judge to give Owino the maximum amount of time behind bars.
Child predators rarely stop molesting. That’s especially true of highly educated and savvy ones like Owino. We hope the judge understands this sad fact.
It’s still not too late, for anyone with information about Owino, that might help law enforcement officials, to come forward. When victims, witnesses, and whistleblowers stay silent, nothing changes and kids get assaulted. But when victims, witnesses, and whistleblowers speak up, at least there’s a chance for prevention, healing, and justice.
Owino is a native of Nairobi, Kenya. His photo and work history is available at http://www.bishopaccountability.org/assign/Owino_Felix_aj.htm
