Victims Blast DE Bishop for "Deception" Yesterday
Statement by Barbara Dorris, SNAP Outreach Director, 314 862 7688
Yesterday, Delaware's Bishop Malooly said: “I am disappointed that the jury found the people of St. Elizabeth’s liable for the acts of Francis DeLuca. It is unfortunate that the parish community of St. Elizabeth’s is being made to pay for the criminal and sinful acts of someone who was assigned by the diocesan bishop . . "
That's NOT what the jury found, and Malooly knows it.
After hearing all the evidence, an impartial jury took two steps.
• It found DeLuca guilty of child sexual abuse (to the tune of $27 million)
• It found the parish guilty of 'gross negligence' (to the tune of $3 million) because two church employees clearly knew of and ignored the crimes.
Meanwhile Bishop Malooly has avoided facing the uncharted depths of the diocesan hierarchy's wrongdoing when he selfishly sought bankruptcy protection last year.
Malooly threw the parish — which he controls — under the bus. Now, he feigns surprise and helplessness at the result of his callous legal maneuvering
