SNAP Press Statement

Statement by Jeannie Cratty, Portland SNAP leader 781-775-0142

We're grateful that this victim, abused as a child in Oregon, may finally get his day in court after eight long years. We strongly suspect he isn't the only person Fr. Ronan molested in Oregon. We hope this progress at the Supreme Court will prod others who saw, suspected or suffered Ronan's crimes to speak up, get help and start healing.

Had Catholic officials anywhere - Ireland, Chicago, Portland or Rome - acted in even a slightly responsible way, this boy would not have been sexually assaulted and this priest would have been stopped years before. It's encouraging that the justice system may not let this injustice stand.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 22 years and have more than 9,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
