Indianapolis Archdiocese settles sex abuse lawsuit; SNAP responds

Statement by Peter Islely, SNAP Midwestern Director 414-429-7259

Buechlein is one of the Midwest's most recalcitrant bishops. We believe he settled this case so top church officials could avoid facing tough questions in open court about how much he and his colleagues concealed Monroe's crimes.

This is a business deal by Buechlein, nothing more. His alleged concern for this victim is a sham. He just wants to avoid being on the witness stand, under oath, where his complicity, and that of his co-workers and predecessors, will be laid bare for all to see

Let's hope that every single person who saw, suspected or suffered clergy sex crimes - by Monroe or any Indiana cleric - finds the strength and courage to speak up, get help, call police, expose predators, protect others and start healing.
