Ex child molesting cleric in Berwyn suspended: Sex abuse victims respond
Statement by David Clohessy of St. Louis, national director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (314 566 9790 cell, 314 645 5915 home)
(NOTE - Berwyn officials suspended a city employee who molested kids when he was a Catholic cleric.)
We're grateful this simple, smart, but belated step has been taken. Kids are a little bit safer as a result.
But now it's crucial that anyone who saw, suspected or suffered Paduch's crimes steps up. People with information about his misdeeds have a moral and civic duty to call police and protect children. Victims, witnesses and whistleblowers might be able to help law enforcement bring criminal charges against this dangerous man, but only if they find the courage to act.
(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the nation’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 21 years and have more than 9,000 members across the country. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
