SNAP responds to Lenczycki ruling

Statement by David Clohessy, SNAP National Director 314-566-9790

Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

We are grateful to the prosecutors, victims and witnesses who tried hard to safe guard kids but disappointed in this ruling. Lenczycki was convicted for molesting three kids, admitted molesting 30 kids and the truth is probably dozens more. The jury determined that he is a sexually violent person.

Even worse, he may now have the potential to assault more kids. Now more than ever it is crucial that everyone come forward with every bit of information or suspicions about Lenczycki's misdeeds. Any information however old, small, or seemingly inconsequential might help police and prosecutors convict and jail him on other charges.

We hope this decision isn't too devastating to those brave victims whose childhoods Lenczycki stole. Catholic officials in California, Missouri and Illinois will likely do nothing. But they have a moral duty to use their vast resources to aggressively seek out and help others whose lives have been shattered by this serial pedophile.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the nation’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 20 years and have more than 9,000 members across the country. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
