Concerning Denver Archdiocesan settlement of priest abuse cases

Statement by Jeb Barrett, Denver SNAP Leader

The great victory this week for all victims and for all children is that we now know for sure that the Catholic officials put concern for their own reputation above the safety of children and civil justice.  The hierarchy’s willingness to cover up criminal activity and move priests like Abercrombie, White and others around to unsuspecting parishes is irresponsible, and they are surely as sick as the secrets they harbor.

We are most grateful to all those who have persisted in getting the truth out for everyone to digest, that they are experiencing some measure of justice, and we hope that this will lead to a continuing examination of clergy files for evidence of further criminal negligence.

We also hope that this validation of victims' suffering will prompt more who are hurting to speak up, get help, call police, expose predators and safeguard children
