SNAP Press Statement

Statement on the occasion of the release of the
"Millstone Reports" by the
Coalition of Concerned Catholics.

April 26, 2006

Statement of Barbara Blaine:

"We applaud this group for doing what all Catholics should do: carefully investigating how bishops have put kids at risk and deceived their flocks about child sex abuse cases. We are grateful that this group has focused on the most troubling and still-unresolved aspect of this crisis: the complicity of bishops who have still, despite decades of criminal behavior, escaped accountability.

We also applaud their choice of bishops to focus on. Research has shown that the overwhelming majority of bishops have mishandled and stonewalled and deceived the press, prosecutors and public about the child molestation scandal. With these particular church officials, however, their misdeeds have been very clearly proven in public records. They deserve to be singled out and castigated."
