SNAP Press Statement

Statement Regarding Appointment of Judge Burke

For Immediate Release: 4/5/06

Statement by Barbara Blaine of Chicago (312) 399 4747
Founder and President of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

We wish Judge Burke well in her new position and believe she'll be a strong advocate for children. Kids need justices and judges who are knowledgeable about and sympathetic toward those who are sexually violated. Judge Burke will be that kind of Supreme Court justice, we believe.

Especially in the last few years, she has shown understandable public outrage at the many bishops who are reneging on their promises to protect the vulnerable and heal the wounded.

We have been encouraged by her wisdom and outspokenness and hope she brings these admirable traits to the state's highest court.
