Statement Regarding Pittsburgh Priest Pleads Guilty in Player's Death

Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005

Statement by Barbara Blaine of Chicago (312 399 4747)
Founder and President of SNAP

We are relieved and grateful that Fr Henry Krawczyk pled guilty today, and hope that probation officials keep a close watch on him.

We also hope that this step will provide some comfort to the family and friends of Billy Gaines, who have clearly suffered enough.

The Gaines family should be applauded for seeking straight answers and real justice though the time-tested court system. Through their courage and persistence, Pittsburgh Catholics may come to finally learn more about Krawczyk's past.

Finally, we hope that anyone who experienced, witnessed or suspected any misconduct Krawczyk will find the strength to come forward and report to law enforcement and get the help and healing they deserve.
