SNAP Press Release

Child sex victims want Catholic woman ousted from governor’s panel

She fought to prevent clergy from being mandated abuse reporters in MD

And she helped stop those molested as kids from being able to expose predators

SNAP to Baltimore archdiocesan staffer “If you are not kicked off, you should resign”

WHAT
At a sidewalk news conference, clergy sex abuse victims will
---disclose that a controversial female Catholic archdiocesan employee is on the Maryland State Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (SCCAN) and
---urge Governor O’Malley, who appointed her, to get her to resign.

They will also blast her for helping to thwart attempts to
--reform Maryland’s “predator-friendly” statute of limitations for child sex abuse, and
--improve reporting requirements for suspected sexual abuse of minors.

WHEN
TODAY, Thursday, Oct. 14, 1:00 PM

WHERE
On the public sidewalk outside of the Governor’s Mansion (110 State Circle) in Annapolis, MD

WHO
Two members of the international support group called SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAPnetwork.org)

We will be holding signs and calling on The Governor to demand the resignation of the Archdiocesan employee.

DETAILS
SNAP has just learned that Alison J. D'Alessandro, who works for the Baltimore Archdiocese is the Governor’s representative on the Maryland State Council on Child Abuse and Neglect (SCCAN). In her role as an archdiocesan employee, D'Alessandro has repeatedly protected known pedophiles, mislead survivors, accused survivors of fabricating stories and protected church secrets rather than protecting children. She has also helped thwarted legislation that would help protect the state’s children and expose child predators.

SNAP is urging the Governor to oust her from the panel and/or urging D’Alessandro to step down.
