SNAP Press Release
Clergy sex abuse victims urge action by DuPage-based group
Child molesting cleric now faces at least six abuse & fraud lawsuits
Yet his church supervisors & Joliet bishop "do nothing" to protect others
The serial predator has worked in at least four states: ND, MN, WI, & CA
Still a cleric, he faces accusations of molesting children in each one of them
But church officials let him quietly lives near all-boys high school in Chicago
SNAP tells Catholic authorities to “get him into treatment center & away from kids”
Group also urges others who “saw suspected or suffered” his crimes to "get help & call police"
They will also urge Joliet's bishop and a Burr Ridge-based religious group to
Finally the group will also
The lawsuit stems from Rose's tenure as a teacher at Shanley High School in Fargo ND in the 1970s. In roughly 1977, Rose sexually assaulted a then 14 year old Shanley student. The Christian Schools Midwest Province employed Rose and operate Shanley.
A Chicago newspaper article from last year report that Rose lives in a Christian Brothers residence near the De La Salle Institute, a high school for boys.
SNAP wants Joliet bishop to insist that Rose’s employer put him in a remote, secure treatment center so kids are safer and so Rose will get therapy.
This summer, five men filed similar suits charging that Rose abused them, sometimes on trips to Chicago and elsewhere, while they were students at two Minnesota schools: De La Salle High School in Minneapolis and Cretin-Derham Hall in St. Paul. Rose also worked at church facilities in Stevens Point, WI, Marine on the St. Croix, MN and Concord, CA.
In 2003, Rose was also sued for molesting a California child. In 2004, that civil case settled for $ 1.1 million.
The recent lawsuit charges that the three Catholic institutions committed negligence and fraud because they represented to students and families that Rose was safe when they knew he had sexually abused at least one boy earlier. (As early as 1966, almost eleven years before he came to Shanley, Rose's supervisors had at least one report of his alleged child sex crimes.)
That suit was filed on Oct. 20 in Cass County, North Dakota, East Judicial District Court.
Rose has worked for the Christian Brothers for at least five decades, receiving a 50 year service award in 2007. http://bishop-accountability.org/priestdb/PriestDBbylastName-R.html
Rose's victims are represented by attorney Patrick Noaker of St. Paul MN, 651 227 9990, 612 961 1307 cell. (NOTE: none of Rose's victims will be at the event today.)
