Sentencing of Thomas Kuhn Wednesday July 21, 2004 2:00 p.m.

SNAP Urges Archdiocese of Cincinnati to expedite Kuhn's permanent dismissal from the priesthood

Thomas Kuhn is scheduled to be sentenced on 11 misdemeanor charges (including one count of public indecency for masturbating in front of a minor) on Wednesday July 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m.

Several survivors and victims' advocates have written letters to Judge Mary Katherine Huffman of the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas requesting that she follows the prosecutor's recommendation that the maximum sentence and fine be imposed and that Kuhn will be barred from any further contact with minors. Please see the attached letter from a leader of SNAP.

SNAP has also sent a letter to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati urging that the Archbishop expedites the permanent dismissal of Thomas Kuhn from the priesthood. SNAP also is requesting that the Archdiocese takes every precaution to prevent Thomas Kuhn from holding any position either within or outside of the Church that would allow him access to children.

It is SNAP's hope that all of these combined actions will help to ensure the safety of all children from further abuse by Thomas Kuhn. No matter what sentence Kuhn receives, he will soon be free; therefore, SNAP encourages any victim or anyone with any knowledge of abuse to please come forward to the authorities. This will aid in the effort to keep perpetrators away from children.
