PA - Philly archbishop loses his bid for higher office

For immediate: November 12, 2013

Statement by Barbara Dorris, Outreach Director, 314-862-7688 [email protected]

We are grateful that Archbishop Charles Chaput's bid for higher office has failed. He got just 20 out of 236 votes in his bid for the presidency of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops

We hope Chaput takes this rebuke as a sign that he should stay home and better protect his flock from predator priests, instead of work at burnishing his image and boosting his clerical career.

According to writer John Allen in the Vatican Insider:

In reality, however, many bishops may have chosen not to vote for Chaput to spare him the burden, since the financial and administrative situation in his Philadelphia archdiocese is widely perceived as among the most challenging facing any American prelate.

He’s facing a challenge……………nothing compared to the challenges faced by the Philadelphia Catholic faithful trying to keep their children safe from sexual abuse. Such leadership here in Phila……..last week’s removal/resignation of a pastor had to be presented by two WOMEN, administrators of the Catholic school assigned to the affected parish.
