John C commented on MO- SNAP on new church report: "more secrecy & PR" 2012-08-10 11:32:55 -0400 · Flag
The rotten fish is a reminder of the letter to the editor that the now top USA Jesuit wrote. His Pollyanna idea is that victims should contact the church first about abuse by the church so that the church will (ha, ha) help the victim report the church to the police.

Thomas Smolich’s Letter to “America”
[Smolich expresses a self-serving concept that church officials can help a victim of the church make a sex abuse report about the church to the police.]

Thank you for your editorial on June 3 about the current crisis …

Having dealt with this situation, it is important to help the victim take the lead so that however the process evolves, he/she is in control of it and is not victimized again. Often, informing church authorities is the first step in dealing with painful memories. Adult victims who come to us rather than to law enforcement are looking for pastoral care and, most of all, an apology. When they are ready, they have the power to tell civil authorities on their own terms, perhaps assisted by the church representatives who have accompanied them in the process.

Similarly Fr. Thomas Smolich, who advanced his career to be the top USA Jesuit, ought to resign from every board that he is on. Smolich was the roommate for two years of Fr. Angel Mariano. Fr. Mariano was accused of being one of a number of Jesuits who sexually abused two disabled men. Plus Mariano was jailed for 5 months on a sex charge involving teens. Fr.

Smolich incredulously said he knew very little about the background of Mariano and the things that went on.

Jesuit Fr. Alfred Naucke, arguably the #2 Jesuit in the California Jesuit Order, was linked to the convicted criminal, Jesuit Fr. Donald McGuire according to this extract from “Appalling Jesuit Cover-up” accessible through a search-engine such as Google:

June 1, 2000:
“The Jesuits are notified by Fr. Alfred Naucke, the Socius of the California Jesuit Province, with Los Gatos headquarters that Jesuit Fr. Donald McGuire [now serving a 25-year sentence] may be the legal guardian of 14 year old John Doe 116, and that they were going to be living together.”

Did the Los Gatos Jesuit hierarchy take steps to defrock a Jesuit from the Philippines, Fr. Angel Crisostomo Mariano?

Fr. Mariano was convicted after a report of oral sex with a 17-year-old boy he met in an Internet chat room where Fr. Mariano posed as a woman. Mariano spent five months in jail.

Fr. Angel Crisostomo Mariano may have returned to the Philippines. The California Jesuit Order with headquarters at Los Gatos needs to disclose where Fr. Mariano is now and whether Fr. Mariano is still a priest.
