Honesty Protects The Vulnerable
And Heals The Wounded
We are women and men who have been
sexually abused by Catholic clergy. We are trying to recover from
this trauma and to protect others from being abused in the future.
At their historic meeting in Dallas, America's Catholic bishops
pledged greater openness about the sexual abuse of children by
priests. Yet much of what we know of these horrific crimes still
comes straight from criminal prosecutions, civil lawsuits and
the news media.
Catholics need to know who and where the abusers are, so they
can protect their children. Victims deserve to know the whole
truth of these crimes. Catholics deserve to know how much of our
money is being spent on attorneys, public relations professionals,
settlements, and therapy for abusive priests. Openness is an important
step toward prevention and healing.
Please join us in urging Bishop Cronin to be
more honest about this critical issue.
