IL--Abuse victims react to Hastert plea deal

For immediate release: Thursday, Oct. 15

Statement by David Clohessy of St. Louis, director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those abused by Priests (314 566 9790, [email protected])

We hope that anyone hurt by Dennis Hastert will feel some consolation in this deal but we suspect that won’t happen.

We’re saddened that Hastert will apparently be able to continue keeping a lid on the truth about the child sex abuse suspicions at the root of this case. Until more is known, we hope parents are prudent and keep their kids away from him.

And we hope that anyone with information or suspicions about known or possible child sex crimes by Hastert will summon the strength to call police, expose wrongdoing, protect others and start healing.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. SNAP was founded in 1988 and has more than 20,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
