PA State Grand Jury Investigates Six Catholic Dioceses: What you need to know

By Joelle Casteix, The Worthy Adversary, April 15, 2018

Cease and desist letters, bully tactics, salacious rumors, lists of accused, Cardinal Roger Mahony and … Bill Cosby? They are all a part of the big picture surrounding the PA state grand jury investigation of six local Catholic dioceses.

If you live in or around Pennsylvania and are concerned with issues anywhere within the state’s borders (or the Catholic clergy sex abuse scandal), you’ve probably heard about the statewide grand jury investigation of six Catholic dioceses across the state.

The result of the two-year investigation, which will be issued in report form, should be released in the beginning of May. The report may or may not include the presentation of criminal charges.

No one can predict exactly what the report is going to say. But we do know this: it is going to be ugly, just like . . .

So what is the difference between a PA Grand Jury Report and say the diocese of Altoona-Johnstown?

The bishops and priest leaders of the diocese of altoona-johnstown Pa harbored over 50 child molester priests for decades and then documented the crimes in detail. The secret archives of the diocese contained over 115,000 DOCUMENTS graphically detailing the sexual molestation of children by its priests and how the bishops covered it up. These men documented the sexual abuse of children in nauseating detail and did nothing to stop it or bring the priests to justice. The Pa Grand Jury reports do the same. These reports documents the crimes in detail, name names and then absolutely nothing happens to the molesters; they all go free even though everyone knows these men are guilty. The justice system and the legislature in PA are as corrupt as the bishops and priests they implicate in these ‘Do-Nothing’ Grand Jury reports. These grand jury reports are a lot of sound and fury but in the end no criminal is brought to justice and none of the child molesters go to jail. PA continues to be ruled by insurance companies and sexual pervert Roman Catholic clergymen. We don’t want endless documents and Grand Jury reports that catalog the crimes and then do nothing-we want justice-the perpetrators and their bishop keepers need to go to JAIL.

Many thanks to State Representative Mark Rozzi for his efforts to bring justice to these victims. It is past time for every state to investigate and help put an end to this abuse and cover up by the Catholic Church. We now need to move to Ohio. Why was Father Jeff Bacon given a Penal Precept concerning his communication with a 16 year old female, but was not removed from his position as a parish priest? Where is Father Bacon now? How much of the Archdiocese’s money has been spent on medical treatment and lawyers concerning Father Bacon? Why did Archbishop Dennis Schnurr tell Father Jim Wedig on October 2, 2016, Father Bacon would not be assigned to a parish again? It is time for transparency. It is time for the records to be released, the abuse has not stopped.
