Church abuse suicides, SHINE THE LIGHT

ALL 30 are dead, probably by suicide.

All 30 were abused by clergy or other religious officials in the Maitland-Newcastle Catholic diocese.

In some cases the link between those two factors appears clear and direct. In others the picture is complicated by time or circumstances.

The time seems right, now that a royal commission is inquiring  . . .

    There is no question in my mind that there is a connection, but it took decades of therapy even to look at it. I have Major Depression recurrent and PTSD. The biological, psychological, and environmental pieces all play a part however when the depression would reoccur and necessitate treatment one of the most self punishing, self depreciating thoughts was the guilt and shame of the sexual abuse by a Catholic Priest who I was seeing for counseling as a senior in high school. When he was just gone without a word, shortly after I tried to kill myself. I remember thinking I don’t deserve to live.
