Clergy sex abuse victims blast controversial AZ sheriff
We’re very upset by reports that the Maricopa County sheriff has failed to follow through on child sex abuse reports and investigations. Every single man, woman and child who finds the courage to call law enforcement about a known or suspected child predator deserves a prompt and thorough response from officials.
When a public official continually fixates on a personal crusade, other crucial aspects of his or her job will inevitably get short shrift.
That’s what seems to be happening here.
Those who’ve been ignored, slighted or hurt by Arpaio or his staff should not give up. Getting frustrated and giving up will only help those who commit and conceal child sex crimes. If you have reported a possible child predator, please keep reporting until you are taken seriously.
50 State AG Call for Grand Jury
Any investigation must be:
- independent of and separate from the church
- must have subpoena powers and ability to compel testimony under oath
Anything short of these criteria is a sham and whitewash.
In addition, write letters to the editor, make phone calls to politicians as they can apply pressure to keep them responsive to our demand. We need to make efforts to ensure that they follow up on what the state is doing to investigate these crimes.
The Attorneys General of forty states have inquired about the grand jury process in Pennsylvania. Let's get statewide investigations going in fifty states.
