We’re grateful that two predator Fresno teachers will never teach again. But we’re disappointed neither predator will do any jail time.

Admitted abusers Matt Pena and 30-year-old Dwayne Andrews were sentenced yesterday. But the ex-Clovis High School staffers won’t be locked up unless others who may have seen, suspected or suffered other crimes by them come forward. While we hope no one else was assaulted by these teachers, if this has happened, we hope victims, witnesses and whistleblowers call law enforcement right away.

Let’s face it: the sad, simple truth is that kids are safest when predators are imprisoned. And sex offenders rarely strike just once. So again, if they’ve hurt others, we beg those individuals to speak up now.

And we strongly urge school board members, administrators and teachers to aggressively seek out and help anyone who might have information or suspicions about these predators. Too often, supervisors and colleagues of predators know more than they share with law enforcement, so predators end up with short or light sentences.
