CA--Cosby files to dismiss suit

For immediate release Friday, December 5

Statement by Barbara Dorris of St. Louis, Outreach Director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests 314 503 0003, [email protected]

We beg Bill Cosby to reverse his decision to get the child sex lawsuit against him tossed out. He should fight the suit using the merits, not by exploiting the technicalities.

And we beg Judy Huth to file a formal police report as soon as she is able. We applaud her decision to file a civil suit.

Cosby claims “a guy should not have to respond to innuendos.” Neither should a guy have to respond to extortion. So why didn’t he file charges or at least publicly disclose the alleged extortion he now conveniently claims he experienced from Judy Huth’s attorney.

Cosby and his lawyers had a chance to expose and punish alleged wrongdoing in court. Like Catholic bishops, he chose secrecy over openness. So he has lost any standing to now criticize his alleged victims for not exposing and punishing him in court decades ago.

Cosby was once “America’s dad.” He’s now “America’s dodger” for trying to wiggle out of facing child sex abuse allegations in court.

He lets his lawyer attack his victims for not pursuing charges against him while refusing to pursuing charges against his alleged extortionist. He’s now “America’s hypocrite” or “America’s Double Standardbearer.”

As flawed as it may be, virtually no process reveals truth better than a trial. But by filing a motion to dismiss, Cosby shows he’s afraid of a trial. He wants to discredit his alleged victims for not taking legal action against alleged wrongdoers while he himself refused to take legal action against an alleged wrongdoer.

Refusing to address these serious allegations in public is wrong. Refusing to address them in court is wrong too. Cosby’s self-serving legal maneuver and public relations evasions will cause the public to see him as a sex offender and child molester AND a coward.

A few venues have still booked performances by Cosby. They should be inspired by the courage of Cosby’s victims and be brave enough - and decent enough – to cancel Cosby’s appearances.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We were founded in 1988 and have more than 20,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Alleged sexual predators like Bill Cosby and accused pedophiles like Sylvain Kustyan, Jerry Sandusky, etc. must be apprehended before they have decades to prey upon our women and children. Sandusky is behind bars. But unfortunately, Sylvain Kustyan, who has been formally charged with two counts of 1st Degree Sodomy of a ten-year-old little boy, fled to avoid imminent arrest. Kustyan, formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Hermin/ Mazingarbe, France, is now a fugitive from the law. Victims of Child Sexual Abuse often suffer lifelong physical problems as well as the psychological and emotional trauma from their horrifying experiences. Male victims have 3x’s the heart attack risk and 10x’s the suicide rate. Since the average pedophile has 300 different victims in their lifetime and since the recidivism rate among pedophiles is virtually 100% they must be stopped ASAP!
