For immediate release: Thursday, August 21, 2014

Statement by Barbara Dorris of St. Louis, Outreach Director of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (314 503 0003, SNAPdorris@gmail.com)

A former youth minister from Alabama has been charged with several counts of child sexual abuse.

Charles Kyle Adcock is accused of abusing a girl he met while working as the youth minister at Woodward Avenue Baptist Church in Muscle Shoals, AL. Adcock has since moved to Texas, where he was arrested. We urge Baptist church officials to reach out to any other potential victims and publically share what they know and when they knew it.

We are so grateful to the brave victim for reporting to authorities. It is through the brave actions of victims that dangerous predators are kept away from children. We hope his arrest will give courage to anyone who may have seen, suspects, or suffered sexual abuse to call authorities.

(SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, is the world’s oldest and largest support group for clergy abuse victims. We’ve been around for 25 years and have more than 20,000 members. Despite the word “priest” in our title, we have members who were molested by religious figures of all denominations, including nuns, rabbis, bishops, and Protestant ministers. Our website is SNAPnetwork.org)
