O’Brien is legend here in KC. The cover-ups are also legend, here in KC. The Teeman family is doing the right thing in bringing this suit, and I wish them well. There have been too many suicides as a result of a weapon placed in the hands of victims by this “church.”

SO proud of these two survivors who have come forward against almost insurmountable odds. But the enabling of predators is even more dangerous! Enough lying already…

Holding up the records in an abuse case is typical behavior by the authority of the church. Although a 0-tolerance rule has been in force since 2002, the authority of the church made no provisions for governing themselves and show no interest in transparency 13 years later. The victims themselves and their support groups, the internet, the media (finally) are learning to approach civil authorities and those groups are responding. For so long as the people in the pews continue to pay to pray, the CRCC will not change.

Stephen, I agree completely with your assessment of the situation. Further, I would suggest that the authority of the church do(es) not believe in the theology of whatever it is called that they use to brainwash their members. Beats me that they have any membership left at all. I am a “recovering” Catholic via the survivor of abuse route. I am so glad to be alive and able to watch them destroy themselves. They themselves created an international crisis. What a farce. Francis I is doing everything right EXCEPT the handling of the predators and those who enable them. Certainly the god they claim to represent does not exist and never did. Nothing they say can be believed.

We do not actually know what Francis I said to Bernard Law. We may never know. This new pope appears to be more reticent about jumping up and proclaiming all the good he does (like Finn did in KC when he ‘settled’ 47 cases in 2008). I am not planning on returning to the ‘church’ in the immediate future, but I would like to take the time to observe what he does. As a survivor of priest abuse, the priority for me will always be the children.

Mahoney needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and jailed for the rest of his life. He is a coward and a fake. Until his worshippers decide not to continue to cowtow before these enablers, the abuse will continue.
